THERASTIM

The TheraStim Philosophy:

Most injuries are the result of a muscle’s inability to absorb a force.  TheraStim treatments work on the principle that joint problems, soft tissue injuries, stress fractures, or repetitive stress injuries are caused by muscles not properly absorbing force.  This energy transfers to tissues not intended to accept that force and the muscle tears, leading to injury.  TheraStim does not treat the specific joint problem, but strengthens the muscles so that the muscles can better support the injured area and absorb the forces being placed on them from normal movement and posture

What is TheraStim?

TheraStim is a unique neuromuscular electrical stimulation device that helps strengthen and elongate weak and injured muscles.  After the injured area is located and the TheraStim is applied, the patient performs active exercises to help strengthen and stretch the muscles.  This is a more beneficial technique instead of the passive types of electric stimulation.  TheraStim allows the patient to work the muscles through the full range of motion and does not cause the muscles to cramp up like some of the other electric stimulation therapies.  It also has the added benefit of helping the body release its natural painkillers called endorphins.  TheraStim provides an important addition to chiropractic treatment because it helps restore the normal muscle strength and range of motion.

How does TheraStim work?

Therastim Pain Relief

TheraStim sends out an electrical charge that is drawn to the injured tissue.  Injured tissue has a different charge than the healthy tissue surrounding it.  Since the protocol requires active patient involvement, it is necessary for the patient to move the problematic body part into the direction of discomfort.  This draws the electricity to the injured/weakened tissue and the electrical charge from the TheraStim neutralizes the injured area’s charge.  Once this happens the inflammatory cycle stops and allows the healing process to start.

When are results seen with TheraStim?

Patient improvement is often noted after the first treatment session, as evidenced by reduced pain, diminished swelling or improved mobility.  The number of treatments needed and results are dependant on the patient’s tolerance to treatment, the condition being treated and the patient’s goals.  It is important to follow your doctor’s recommendations concerning your treatment program.  Your doctor is concerned not only with restoring good biomechanics, but also with the prevention of future musculoskeletal problems.  The better patients understand the purpose of their treatments, the better they cooperate in following treatment recommendations and the quicker they improve.

What can be treated with TheraStim?

TheraStim can help relax muscle spasms, increase local blood circulation, as well as reduce swelling and pain in many injuries.  TheraStim may help conditions such as tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, back pain, neck or post surgical pain, sprains, strains, bruises, as well as shoulder, ankle and knee injuries.  It helps accelerate the healing process.  It is also useful in restoring normal range of motion in patients experiencing stiffness or limited range motion.

Possible benefits of TheraStim:

Prevention of muscle disuse atrophy, increased local blood circulation, neuromuscular re-education, muscle strengthening, increased range of motion, and decreased muscle spasm, inflammation and pain.

Who uses TheraStim?

Everyday people who have aches and pains to weekend warriors to professional athletes in the NFL, NHL, MLB, PGA, as well as Olympians, use the TheraStim to treat injuries and help them recover more rapidly. It also aids muscles in the recovery of extensive training and over-exertion.  It has also been used to speed up post-surgical recovery.
